My approach to Barry wasn’t driven by polished language or an exquisite sales pitch; it was simple, sincere, and straight from the heart. And as fate would have it, Barry saw the genuine commitment behind my words. This marked the beginning of a relationship that lasted well over a decade, forged not just in business transactions but mutual respect and trust.

I’ve never been the kind of salesperson to smooth-talk. My language skills, particularly my spoken English, were far from fluent. But, what I lacked in eloquence, I made up with genuine concern and commitment. I may not have made those casual chit-chat calls or shared pleasantries regularly with Barry, but I’ve always held him close to my heart, grateful for the trust he bestowed upon me. From an initial order of a single 20’GP, our business partnership bloomed to multiple 40’HQs each year.

But as the old adage goes, every silver lining has a cloud. The years 2021 and 2022 brought unforeseen challenges. With skyrocketing freight charges and soaring raw material costs, it felt as though the shipping costs eclipsed the value of our very products. It was a challenging phase, a test of our bond. But Barry’s indomitable spirit shone brightly. His words, “I will be positive about 2022 and not focus on negatives such as freight and supply chain interruptions. XXX will continue to grow and our families will prosper,” were a beacon of hope and motivation. He reminded me that the key to overcoming challenges isn’t just hard work, but also maintaining a positive attitude.
